Why is Cala d'Or Family Coast interesting for you? For more than one reason:
- Cala d'Or Family Coast has set in motion a novel tourism management and promotion project. This "Quality Resort" project bears the technical name of "Optimized Vacational Area" (OVA) and consists of creating a level of services, safety and cleanliness similar to those of a single holiday park, although we are speaking of a coastal area of around 5 km in length containing approximately 50 associated tourist establishments. All sectors of society are involved in this effort: restaurateurs, neighbours’ association, local council and also the Balearic Tourism Institute (Instituto Balear de Turismo - IBATUR).
- Cala d'Or has already made history, by being the first town on Mallorca created exclusively for tourism. This history began in the 1930s and many parts of Cala d'Or still radiate the charm of old-fashioned summers.
- Some important names are linked to Cala d’Or. Its founder was an Ibizan artist and caricaturist, Josep Costa i Ferrer. One of the first beach hotels on Mallorca opened in Cala d’Or in 1934, developed by a Belgian painter.
- Cala d'Or was and is a meeting place for prominent figures who shy away from the hustle and bustle of less discreet areas. Jeanne Moreau and Nataixa Rambowa, Rudolph Valentino’s widow, both lived here.
